Insid / Mele 07:12
All exhaled to the depths, Our deepest breaths, Expressed, In halos, Foaming to the brim, All to begin, The sin, Of high hopes, Wash away repent, Feel cold and sweat, Forget, The old bones. All that's left to last, Shimmers away, The sun comes up, Marks today, And I'm high enough, To move across the space, Between the points, That keep us, keep us, keep us, Face to face, Set adrift from ground, Set adrift beyond the sound, Weight that won't leave my head, Keeps me sinking to the depths, And it's all around, Our voice against the waves, Sways that move the joints, And lead us, lead us, lead us, lead us to embrace, Breath, Oh, won't it come? Strands, Of that yellow summer sun, I never protest. I hew what's left, what's left to say? There's enough of it here for us to bathe, Skin that's stuck like poverty's mark, A touch that breathes as much as your worst, And I've retired, To a place that doesn't feel so old, And all desire, Abandoned me, abandoned you.

Treetops 06:17
I live in a place that can't be seen, 'Cause you close your eyes to everything, Somewhere west, no somewhere east, Lots of blue and lots of green, From the canyon tops you'll melt and blur, From the treetops you'll be heard, Yell across the heavens, "You're at home, "Home..." You told me to part the ocean, I did, I did, You told me to be your lover, I was, I was.

about

A man loses his family.
A man jumps and lets the sea cradle him.
But doesn't fight,
--"Insid / Mele"
And sinks, and sinks to the bottom.
Depth and pressure let him hear the melody.
and drowns..
But doesn't
--"Stone, Air"
A breath of air,
A stone
A tree
A Monolith.
A return home
But not.
--"Treetops"

In loving memory of Deborah Johnson.

The story starts with an old man who throws himself from a cliff into the sea because of the loss of his family. "Insid / Mele", is about this - drowning and reflecting the scenario that brought him to this situation. The man finally awakens ashore a giant stone monolith with a tree growing from the top, realizing that this is not of the world he was previously of. Silver, is about reaching this destination - the Monolith. "Stone, Air", is about the transformation to the Monolith. The piano acts at the sonic gateway between being submerged and drowning, to resurfacing in a new place. It's a story about transformation and a metaphor for transcending and returning to a place called home.
